Closing Conversations: Our Commitment to Change

Session Description

We opened the day by connecting to our “why” — our individual reasons for doing this work. We close the day with World Cafe-style conversations to share what we’ve learned with each other and identify what we can each do to make change.

Em Braman, Executive Director of The Arc Oregon, invites us to transform our “why” into action steps to improve outcomes for dual-diagnosed youth.

Allison Stark, Director of Albertina Kerr, offers a systems-level perspective on making change for dual-diagnosed youth in Oregon.

Sen. Sara Gelser-Blouin offers closing remarks and sends us off with a strong call to action.

How lived experience informs this session

Em Braman is the executive director of The Arc Oregon and a parent of two young adults with IDD and mental health needs. Allison Stark is the director of Albertina Kerr, one of the largest providers of direct services and residential care for youth with IDD and mental health needs. Sen. Sara Gelser-Blouin is a lawmaker in the Oregon State Legislature and an advocate for the IDD community.
